Brian Hackney - I still remember the staff meeting one evening where Brian wrote the word "format" on the chalkboard, just to emphasize that it was not a dirty or four-letter word. Some people may have disagreed and wanted the free-wheeling indie unscripted college radio experience, but as I recall that format filled a niche in SLO, and KCPR was one of the top-rated stations in that market because of it. I respected his stand, and thought the station really had a good thing going back then. I enjoyed watching him doing weather and science reporting on TV when I lived in San Diego.[b]
