KRE Studio Tour
KCPR Alumni visit the former KRE studios in Berekeley which is now home to the California Historical Radio Society. On April 3, 2010, KCPR alumni from the Bay Area visited the former KRE Studios in Berkeley, now home to the California Historical Radio Society
The KRE studios are famous as the location for the scene with Wolfman Jack and Richard Dreyfus in "American Graffiti". The station's tower as well as the control room was featured in the movie.
The California Historical Radio Society has worked to restore the studios and grounds of the station's original facilities which still serve as a remote transmitter site. They also maintain a Vintage Radio Museum to display an impressive collection of beautifully restored vintage radios ranging from portable and table top radios to full living room consoles, some dating back to the 1920s. They also operate a vintage radio repair clinic which keeps very busy on the weekends preserving the living history of radio.
